Vision

Creating art has always been a huge part of who I am! I’ve studied painting with masters and tried my hand at all sorts of medium. I’ve made a living as a painter, jeweler, textile artist, glass artist in Seattle, and art teacher since way back in the 1980’s. People have called me a Renaissance artist because I’ve had such a wide range of training and experiences.

In the beauty of a fern strewn woodland haven, imagination blooms. And when I’m in the studio, I’m filled with a fresh sense of curiosity and love for the natural world. Art has an amazing power to help us look deep within ourselves, express who we are, and transform our lives.

For me, analyzing each subject or theme is like a visual meditation or a song of the spirit..I am a maker: I play with materials, artifacts, treasures of nature…that which we practice, becomes stronger, come play, come co create.

History

The genesis of Rock Nest

Discover the inspiring history behind Rock Nest Gallery at Woodland Arts Studio. This vibrant gallery is named after Lilly Martin Spencer’s home and studio, who lived on the property in the late 1800’s. She was a popular American genre painter in the mid-nineteenth century. While working diligently as a painter, Lilly was mother to 13 children, and the sole provider for her large family! Her husband and parents supported her career and cared for their children and home. She is regarded as one of the most prolific painters of the 19th century, whose paintings are featured in the White House and galleries across the world.

Her legacy lives on at Rock Nest Gallery, where I celebrate developing inner strength, and the magic of art. Located in the breathtaking Hudson Valley, my studio invites you to slow down, explore, and soak in the good vibes. Join me for an unforgettable experience that honors the past while celebrating the present.
